FAQs

Why do you recommend buying mulberry trees in pairs?

While Himalayan mulberries are self-fruitful and can produce fruit on their own, planting two trees can increase yield through better pollination. More trees mean: • More and larger mulberries • Increased pollinator activity • A healthier, more productive environment That's why we recommend planting two trees for the best results: bigger harvests and a greater chance of success.

How can I get my reserved tree?

Visit our farm during U-Pick hours to collect your mulberry tree! We're located at: 501 Hoffman Lane, Brentwood, CA.

How often should I water my tree?

If you've bought the tree from our farm but haven't planted it yet, water it daily to keep it healthy. After planting, water deeply 1–2 times per week during spring to fall. In winter, reduce to once every 2–3 weeks. Let the soil dry slightly between waterings while keeping the root zone moist.

How much water should I give?

For newly planted trees, provide about 5-10 gallons of water per week, depending on weather conditions. Mature trees may need 15-20 gallons weekly during hot summer months. Water slowly and deeply to encourage deep root growth.

How should I plant it?

Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball but no deeper. The top of the root ball should be level with the ground surface. Backfill with native soil, water thoroughly, and add a 3-4 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping mulch away from the trunk.

How long before I will get mulberries?

If you buy a Himalayan Mulberry tree from us, you'll start seeing fruit in just 2–3 years, with full harvests by year 4 or 5. That's much faster than starting from seed. Our trees are already well-rooted and ready to grow.

Do I need any special kind of soil or amendments for it?

Himalayan Mulberry trees thrive in well-draining soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0. If your soil is clay-heavy, mix in compost or aged manure to improve drainage. Once established, they require minimal amendments. You can find suitable soil and compost at Moon Valley Nurseries, Brentwood Decorative Rock, The Home Depot on Lone Tree Way, or even Costco in Brentwood, which often carries organic raised bed and in-ground soil mixes ideal for fruit trees.

Disclaimer

At Very Mulberry, we offer healthy, well-rooted mulberry trees grown on our Brentwood farm, but their success depends on the care they receive after leaving us. Once a tree is picked up, its survival becomes the buyer's responsibility. Even on our farm, with expert hands and ideal conditions, not every tree makes it. That's just nature. We recommend buying in pairs to increase the odds of success and give you a better chance that at least one will thrive into a strong, fruit-bearing tree.
